Cerruti is a Parisian fashion house founded by the Italian stylist and fashion producer Nino Cerruti.
Headquartered in Paris, the Cerruti label was officially launched in 1967 with the opening of the flagship store, Place de la Madeleine.
In 2006, the company became property of the American firm MatlinPatterson Global Advisors.
History and traditions
In 1881, the grandfather of Nino Cerruti founded the textile mill Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti. Located in Biella, Italy, the extraordinarily pure water in the region is put to perfect use to wash and treat the wool. The latter is imported principally from Australia and South Africa, so as to develop flannel, tweeds, cashmere, and butter muslin.
Under the guidance of Nino Cerruti , the PiƩmontaise woolen workshop became a centre of research, producing numerous technical advances to create new threads such as the super 100 (1 kg of wool for 100 km of thread), later on followed by the super 120, 150, 180, up to 210.
To this day, Cerruti fabrics are produced in these very same workshops.
The Cerruti label is launched in 1967 with a menswear collection. A short time later, in 1976, the line Cerruti Femme is created.
In 1978, the House makes an entry into the world of fine fragrance with Nino Cerruti pour Homme, soon to be followed by Cerruti 1881 pour Homme in 1990 and l'Essence de Cerruti in 2009.
In the 1980's, Cerruti began a collaboration with cinema. From Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Woman to Basic Instinct, the brand designed clothes for actors such as Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone, Harrison Ford or Jean Paul Belmondo.
Cerruti today
The end of 2009 marks the arrival of two new creative directors: Jesper Borjesson for men's collections and Richard Nicoll for women's. Both will feature their respective work during Parisian Fashion Week in January and March 2010. In July 2009, the flagship store at Place de la Madeleine closed its door for renovation. The design was entrusted to the French architect Christian Biecher.
